When you consider the cost of the goods plus organization’s cost of money, storage, drop in product value, etc, it quickly adds up to some serious money. In 2001, Cisco Systems took the biggest inventory write-off of US$2.5 billion and Lucent Technologies took a write off of US$563 million.
